NovaKamp wins EDF 2024 award SENTINEL project

May 20, 2025

The **NovaKamp Group ** is proud to announce its selection as a partner in the SENTINEL project, chosen as part of the **European Defense Fund (EDF) 2024 **program. This ambitious project aims to address a strategic challenge for European armed forces: the energy transition applied to military operations.

Project objective: sustainable energy capabilities for deployed forces

Bringing together 38 partners from 17 European countries, the SENTINEL project ("Sustainable Energy Capabilities for Enhanced Military Camps and Operations") aims to develop autonomous, resilient, and sustainable energy systems capable of supporting the growing needs of military camps in deployment, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Over a period of** 48 months**, the project partners will carry out design, prototyping, testing and qualification activities under operational conditions. The approach aims to integrate cutting-edge technologies into real-world environments, across a range of climatic and tactical scenarios.

17 key energy capabilities to be developed

SENTINEL stands out through the implementation of 17 critical energy capabilities, including:

  • advanced energy production and storage technologies,
  • energy mobility (deployable and transportable systems),
  • digital solutions for energy management,
  • the integration of smart energy networks tailored to operational needs.

These innovations are designed to enhance energy efficiency and security of supply, while also streamlining logistics in the field, thereby contributing to greater tactical autonomy.

The role of NovaKamp

In this context, the NovaKamp Group will contribute its expertise in mobile energy systems, integrated solutions for constrained environments, and field logistics, working in synergy with other industrial partners, research centers, and government agencies involved. This participation strengthens NovaKamp's position among European players contributing to dual innovation (civil and defense), while consolidating its partnerships on a continental scale.

European funding

The project has a total budget of nearly €57 million, of which nearly €40 million will be funded by the European Union under the EDF, a strategic program to support European defense technological and industrial autonomy.

What's next?

The project began in early 2025, with several development and testing phases planned until 2029.
